On Monday, October 13, we proudly celebrated the official opening of the expansion of our Barge Terminal.
In total, an additional 3 hectares of land have been developed with new storage and transshipment facilities. Furthermore, the quay wall has been extended from 150 to 320 meters, a second crane has been installed, and the quay now features a fixed shore power supply. Thanks to these upgrades, the terminal meets the latest European standards and is ready for the future.
“The expansion provides more space and capacity for freight transport. This makes Venlo even stronger as an important hub connecting road, rail, and water,” said Alderman Erwin Boom.
With a contribution of more than €4 million from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), we were able to realize this expansion. This strengthens our position as a sustainable logistics hub within the trans-European transport network, linking the Meuse and Rhine rivers with the Port of Rotterdam and the European hinterland.
All of this was made possible thanks to:
Municipality of Venlo, Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management, Province of Limburg, Topcorridors, and EU-funded initiatives, in collaboration with the European Subsidy Consortium Rhombus.
